I think you are right but you have to have sympathy for the man as well!
when you think about it you can realize that he has a hard job and he might
NEED the company and when they offer then if he accepts the offer than they
should realize that there is a chance he could hurt them and they could hurt
him.

I can definitely see your point about the innocent characters, for me the
books were imaginative enough that the somewhat one-dimensional characters were
acceptable; plus they do become more interesting in the later books. Eustace
and Jill in particular are much more flawed and interesting than the original
crew.

But yeah, Peter & Lucy and co. are a bit bland.

Truthfully, I didn't even get as far as the third book in the series. I
tried really hard to like it, but I just couldn't. Every one was just so nice
and innocent and dreadfully devoid of human emotions like malice, hatred, anger
and all other negative traits that I just chucked the entire book series back
to a kind friend who had lent it to me.

The Christian symbolism wasn't what ruined it for me. It was the
1-dimensional characters.

Seriously, Enid Blyton wrote better stuff. And perhaps reading Lord of the
Rings before starting on Narnia had an effect as well.
